I've always marvelled at the beauty of bespoke neon signage. Whether heading up shops and storefronts or towering on top of buildings and over walkways, the fusion of functional text and artistic craftsmanship never ceases to amaze me.
It could be said that that quality signage is the epitome of good design.
As the quote goes: “Great design is invisible”. I wonder how often a person looks at 3D neon signage, something that functions perfectly and looks beautiful both day and night, and thinks to themselves “Wow, someone incredibly skilled made that”.
Food for thought. However I'm not here to philosophise, I'm here to give you guys candy. And this piece of candy is probably as sweet as they come.
Based on the Bebas Neue font by Dharma Type, we've created a set of 49 incredible 3D Neon Lettering renders.
Included in this 3D lettering pack:
- Letters A-Z
- Numbers 0-9
- Symbols: @ & ‘ # , $ = ! + – % . ?
Each character is rendered from one angle only. As much as I'd like for us to provide multiple angles for every character, doing so for a freebie of almost 50 included assets would be a major job. Maybe in the future.

As you can see from the previews below, the main feature image and (particularly) the animated GIF at the bottom of the page, you can have some real fun with these assets.
Use hue/saturation masks to change the colour of the neon strip and amplify the glare with some lighting effects and overlays. Overlap the letters and add in shadows to increase the realism then apply curve and level maps to the entire image when finished to blend everything together. Fun fun fun in the sun sun sun candy shop.

There are 49 individual assets included in this download. Each letter and number is around 400px by 400px in dimension with the symbols a little smaller. Whilst not the largest of renders we've released on site, they're still large enough for you to get a lot of use out of. They're also rendered at 300dpi making them useful in print work too.
As with all our free candies, this download is Uncopyright so you can do whatever you want with it.

Thanks @nandodeleon:disqus! Pretty easy to create if you’re familiar with Photoshop’s animation / timeline feature. Just added a black+white mask to the neon section of the text and turn it on and off over multiple frames 🙂

That’s a good idea @arcticmonkeyman:disqus! I’m sure putting together some tutorials on how to use the resources would be a possibility, but getting Lomell to go through the how-it-was-made process would be pretty advanced stuff.

Don’t know why you don’t believe me when I tell you I KNOW how and WHERE to look. It has not arrived. The other one arrived quickly. If I got 1, then I should have gotten the other one.
Check you typed your email correctly then.
Of course it was put in correctly. It is put in every time using a browser extension which has been correctly doing so for years. I used the same method to get the other email to download an item.
Just checked and it works perfectly. Hundreds of people download this item everyday, the system works.

I KNOW the other one worked. This one did NOT send an email…3 times I tried! Why are we having such a big to-do about this. It’s like you think I am some stupid kid right off the farm! Not giving email here in an open forum, but it is same email that worked on other download request.
